Automatic 2.0 Base ILX. To the right of the gear shifter. What purpose does it serve?

I think it has something to do with shift lock. Any auto drivers want to chime in?

Perhaps something to do with removing the center console panel? *shrug*

I think you are right, another dealer mentioned it was for manual cars. Is there supposed to be a cover of some sort on it for Autos? Should I just remove the tape?

Seems a bit weird.
I think you should be ok removing the tape. Prob just going to collect dirt though.

I'm almost 100% sure that it is a Shit Lock Over Ride so even without the key in the ignition turned to "unlock" the transmission, you can push down on that and shift the transmission.

This is a great feature cause if your vehicle loses power, you may not be able to shift it, this can be a problem when you want to tow your vehicle and the tow truck operator needs to put the vehicle in Neutral to do so.

you should check if they provided a button to insert, if they didn't, they should eventually....it will make that trim look so much more cleaner without any holes like that.

That is what I was thinking as well.

if you haven't already your owners manual should give you more detailed information on it
If you look at any of the pictures of the 5 speed automatic console on line, they all have a cover (I assume factory) for that opening. Check with your dealer.

That is the shift lock override and it looks as if the tech that did your PDI (pre-delivery inspection) didn't replace the cover that's suppose to be their that rj8xj6 posted.

I bet if you let your dealer know they'll give it to you for free.

Thank you to rj8xj6 and AcuraPWR for clearing that up guys! :punk:

OP, let us know what the dealer offers as a remedy!

Everything I said may not be on point, but it's just the most realistic situation i can think of.

If it was actually missed during a PDI, I wonder what else is "missing" OP might want to take a better look at his/her car
I checked several 2.0's at the dealership yesterday. They ALL had the cover in place. Clearly standard issue.

Funny, though, the one at the LA Auto Show was missing the cover - just a piece of clear tape covering the opening as in Arctic's photo. Perhaps an enthusiastic Auto Show attendee?
Originally mine had a piece of a tape covering it, I actually found the little piece in a ziplock baggie in the glove box.
Shouldn't be a big problem to get the cover from Acura.

Indeed that is the shift lock overide. They most likely left eh cover off the auto show car to be able to move the car without starting it
My tech apparently put in the shift lock cover backwards somehow!! :smh:

If you stick your key in there it unlocks 25 more extra horsepower.

Nah just kids, ILX FAN is correct lol

LMAO!!!! What an epic fail. You can fix that, just pop the cover out and put it in back properly how it was suppose to be.

Any pic's of the cover in backwards? :D
