After leaving the grid in 2008 Honda is making returning to F1, reviving a legendary partnership with McLaren. The two manufacturers enjoyed phenomenal success during their last marriage in the late 80s and early 90s. Team Drivers drivers Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost (both legends) won eight world championships and 44 grands prix, while taking 53 pole positions and setting 30 fastest laps.

Honda will be responsible for building the new mandated 1.6-liter turbocharged V6 plant that will include energy recovery, while McLaren will develop and manufacture the chassis, as well as the managethe new team, which will be aptly named "McLaren Honda". The team will be based in Milton Keynes England just down the street from Red Bull Racing HQ
I'm very excited about this partnership especially in terms of new model development. The new NSX may not benefit from this partnership right off the bat but the blown 6 and energy recovery systems have huge potential to power future NSX's and even contribute to the development of sportier small models (I'm looking at you ILX). In racing, development is all about speed, in consumer vehicles it’s all about using less fuel. Both results can be found on different sides of the same coin. The extreme conditions of racing provide a very fast and efficient way to test new developments, innovations can see city streets within 5 years. Sportier volume models like the ILX will benefit from the turbo and small displacement engine research as well as benefiting from sequential gear box technology.
What do you guys think about this move will it help bring back the Honda/Acura glory days or are they simply wasting time?
