The Light Show

Hey all, haven't found anyone talking about this.. but it's obviously a popular thing to go for these days..

I am looking into all the bulb numbers our interiors have so that I can do a conversion to all LEDs (which I know some already are) but generally looking to go red with my bulbs. Also, I am gonna look deeper into the ambient lighting the new Accords and Civics use.. My TSX had blue ambient lights (floor board, overhead, console) and it looked really nice, very subtle but it made the car feel more luxurious while driving. Is anyone else interested in doing something like this?

If so I'll post all the bulb numbers, where they're located and how many you would need of each.

I am also looking at the turn signals and daytime running lights.. I am gonna switch my foglights out for 5K LEDs for sure to match the headlights.. can't stand the yellowy look verses the super white headlights. I have got some free time and work and have already figured a list of all the exterior lights.

Switch back LED turn signals would be awesome, i suggest you get them.

A good place to start with bulb numbers is your owners manual, it should cover all if not most of the bulbs in your ILX

From what I have seen it only gives wattage on 90% of the bulbs.. the headlights and fogs are listed but others aren't specified.
I know from different threads that many of us are looking into the bulb size and numbers for the ILX.
I have just ordered all of the interior lights and will be replaced by LEDs. As soon as I get them, and make sure they all fit, I will post the info in a thread. After that I will move to the exterior.

All the bulb sizes/types should be in your manual. You just have to order the LED which is the right socket and which you think will fit. You can usually get dimensions of the LEDs and you just look at the housing and try to figure out if it'll fit.

Before and after pictures along with that list of LED's and anything else will be great to see :)
If the types of bulbs are not listed in your manual. Then just physically take them out and look at the size yourself. Easiest way as of now
Any pictures regarding what the final product will look like?
I'd like to see them too

The main problem with switchbacks on this car is that the amber plastic covers the bulb. By placing a bulb that turns white and flashes amber, you won't notice much of an affect to justify the $70 pair of bulbs.
Bulbs are being ordered next week. I will keep everyone in the loop

Yup, you're right, the amber plastic cover would totally defeat the purpose of getting the switch back LED that AcuraPWR mentioned.

A suggestion would be to remove that piece but I highly doubt new Acura ILX owners are willing to go that far with their ILX at this point. New headlights aren't cheap, and it would suck to screw up.
What is a switchback LED?

Is it just me or all these LED in the interior is just way too bright. Sure it looks good but when you open the door and it triggers the dome light to turn on it just blinds you.

Switchbacks act as daytime running lights. They sit as a white light until you use your turn signals they turn amber colored.

~~ Order is in.
1 ~ Universal Dome LED (adjustable) for rear interior dome light.
2 ~ 921 socket high power LED for reverse lights
4 ~ 194 front facing LEDs for license plate and front footwell lights
2 ~ H11 socket 360 degree LEDs for foglights
2 ~ 9005 socket 360 degree LEDs for DRL

The front interior lights are already LEDs

The day that a car like the ILX comes with nothing but LED lighting for the interior will be awesome. I don't understand why they don't do it. How much would it really cost over the halogen type bulbs when being mass produced in thousands of cars. Plus it puts less strain on the vehicles battery and charging system since they use less power.
I would have to say because the lighting is too bright for some users.. so what manufacturers are having to do to counter act is use acrylic as the lense instead of the typical clear lense with diffusers. For instance, compare your front lights (LED w/ acrylic covers) as opposed to your rear dome light (Halogen bulb w/ diffused clear case). It probably nets to about the same as I imagine acrylic is more expensive than clear cases and then on top of that the LEDs are more expensive. From a manufacturing stand point it would be harder to mass produce single items and use them in multiple cars, unless they used LEDs in Hondas. Our rear dome light is the same in nearly all Hondas.
Its better that they would start off with halogens because its not as bright as LEDS. If you think about it every single LED is really bright. Personally I prefer halogen for that reason and if you wanted to upgrade you still can. If anything all honda has to do is find a cheap source for LED bulbs.
Its a time period thing for me. Newer cars look good with bright ass lights and older cars look better with the yellow tint. Older cars with white HIDs look ricey in my opinion.
I cant wait to see what your list of bulbs actually amount to then jock what I like. Lol
That's what this game is all about :p
