Possible wilwood big brake kit

2707 Views 9 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  cfrp
Hey guys, so I was talking to wilwood representatives at the annual eibach meet about making a big brake kit for the ILX but they need to know if there's a market willing to buy. **IF** they do, how many of you guys would be interested?

Interested but ill probably piece together my own set up.
I'm in but we'd need a price that is competitive.
Well, I can't get a price yet since they don't know if there's potential buyers. I'm better the price will be similar to the 9th gen si's

They wont get very competitive for a while. If wilwood does a set up they can charge whatever they please and they will since the market is so small.
Keep in mind these companies are going to look at the same specs we see on ilx sales. One look and theyll laugh at the amount of ilxs sold to date.
Might be easier ti piece a kit together. That said itll cost less because none of us need a full big break set up. Rotors, pads, and lines will all increase our breaks without forking over a grand into a full set up.

Just a theory

One thing to consider in the amount of units sold is that Civics will be able to use the brake kits as well. Which the Si community is one of the largest modding communities..EVER.

But, I agree with you.. you can get a good set of rotors, brake pads and brake lines to really increase your performance.
Again, I am just a hardcore devils advocate. I am a manager among 4 other department managers, an owner, a co owner, and a license holder. Devils advocate is what I do best but in the end I am on you side. Im just making sure we cover all our corners here.

It is like I said with the supercharger. WE as owners know we can use parts from the civic si... some parts.
But a company wont be willing to sell SI parts AS ILX parts. They will have to do their own research and development to make sure it is safe to sell civic parts as ilx parts.

Many companies will just throw their hands in the air and say the R&D isnt worth the amount of ILX buyers.
If you figure they got the si kits out for $10,000 R&D. Then they are able to sell 35 kits at $1000 each, they made $25,000 profit.
Now, if they do the same $10,000 into R&D but only sell 10 big break set ups, they come out even regardless of the amount of SI owners that made purchases.

Obviously those cost numbers I pulled out of the air but I hope they served a purpose. Companies have to waste money to push out new products. They weight how many NEW products will sell against the costs to put the product out. If they are already selling SI big break kits to SI owners, PLUS a few ILX owners just go ahead and buy SI kits, what is the need to produce ILX specific ones?

For ILX specific it would be near pointless in this phase. Si parts though they definitely should, as a company for the reasons you stated, just make sure they fit and send them off with their seal of approval.
There is more than just fitment.

Check out the dude that lifted his ILX with the upgraded SI sway bar. His sway bar dented his exhaust piping.

How acura looks at it, the dude just voided his warranty because an aftermarket part just caused damage to the car... hopefully the downpipe at hand was aftermarket as well.

So see, just because the part at hand fits, doesn't mean another part that has nothing to do with it will come in contact in the ILX but not the civic.
Would probably be cheaper to just build your own big brake kit.
