Hey guys, I'm looking into purchasing a ilx 6-speed MT and was wondering if you actually hear a v-tec cross over like the Rsx S or Si... I heard that this motor is an r18 which I know you don't hear no cross over what's o ever. I would love to find out because I would definitely want to put an intake and exhaust to hear the cross over better. Thanks in advance!

On the 2.4 manual you can hear it cross over but it is much more subtle than the RSX S or 06-11 Si, and unlike those two you cannot feel it kick in at all. An intake would most certainly make it more noticeable. If you want more info on this motor check out the forums for the 2012-13 SI, same motor.

You don't hear the cross-over really.. It's not the difference in a chainsaw throttled and idling. It's so subtle I doubt most people even know where it crosses without looking at specs.

I own a 2010 Civic Si and then crossover in the ILX is more of a stronger pull than a "hit" I feel in the Si.Of course this is only my perception driving them both on a regular basis.

For me in simplest terms Si=Raw...........ILX= Refined

The K20, B16s, B18s, F22C had some of the most aggressive crossovers. This is due to a dip on the powerband right before the crossover. With an intake and exhaust they sounded like a mini explosion when crossing over.

The k24 crossover is not as noticable. Powerband is smoother. If you get an exhaust and intake it can be heard better.

Its funny because if you get these properly tuned regardless of which ever standalone or flash you wouldnt feel the dip or explosion. Its much more smoother with the transition of the vtec crossover.

Another reason the crossover is less prevalent in sound is due to the fact that the K24's only adjust duration and lift on the intake side. The K20's have it on both the intake and exhaust cam. Another reason is the integrated exhaust manifold with the head.
