Japanese automaker Acura took home top marks in the latest Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) test results. The Acura ILX was a ‘Top Safety Pick’ in the sedan category. No longer the domain of large cars, IIHS safety picks nowadays reward smart design and efficient crash-response systems, as much as weight and size. To meet or beat IIHS criteria, a car must offer superior roof strength, side and rear impact protection, and frontal overlap. The ILX is considered an entry-level car into Honda’s luxury segment, Acura. Buyers of the ILX usually are shopping for safety, efficiency, and style.
