2.4L Automatic ILX being considered

An American Honda executive has revealed that they are considering offering a 2.4l automatic engine but when that will be is unknown. This is in response to low sales and customers who are upset about the lack of options.

How obvious does it need to be that a 2.4 automatic (or some other 200+ horsepower engine paired with an automatic) is the way to go?

Who else tries to sell a $30,000+ car with only 150 horsepower?

The ILX is moving up the charts despite not having a 200hp auto.
Keep in mind the rest of the cars may have good size engine variants, but not always on their base model at that low low advertised price. ILXs are going for 25,000 with luxuries most cars never saw until they were at least 5grand more.

Add that to cost of ownership and the ILX is a pretty damn sweet deal.

Only thing that erks me is id LOVE to drive around in an Audi A3. That would be great. But I love Acura. Always have. German engineering is great and all, but japanese tech is right there behind it and some would argue it is better in some cases. Audis are everywhere, unlike the ILX. I for one would have no issues with ciritcs hating the ILX so hard it dropped out of production with 2 years making it the odd ball acura no one but this forum and some stranglers own. Count me in!

People will still buy the 2.0L but even more will buy the auto if it came with a 2.4L :)

They would have to tune that thing to take regular gas though.

ilx dropped out of production?
I really can't seem them doing this until the TSX gets discontinued. If the ILX was offered in a 2.4 auto, TSX sales would die.
Right now I'm sure they wouldn't want the two cars to compete against each other.

Maybe for the next generation of the line when they end up doing the switch from its current state to the ILX, TLX, RLX... then it would make more sense to segment their supply in the market.
Just got a newletter from Acura. 2014 ILX has new features but no drastic changes... and these new features are just old features thrown on the base model. Premium and up is the same as 2013. The base model has an additional 200watts for their sound system, I assume bringing it to the level the premium is at. Leather heated seats for the base like the prem and tech already have. As well as 17in alloy wheels the tech and prem have. The Hybrid is the only ilx to stay on those split spoke wheels.

Meaning anyone with a 2013 base ilx has lost value on their models. Anyone with a premium, couldn't say, may have lost value as well now that the base has many of the same features. The MT however I figure is unaffected because the base doesnt have that option. Tech seems to be untouched feature and value wise.

Sumo, At first I felt the same and thought having the top teir ilx compete with the base TSX was a bad idea. But now I really like it.
I for one just dont like the TSX. To me it's stuck in 2010. As the TL got remodeled the TSX should have followed suit with the TL RLX MDX and ILX. The TSX is the only one with its own look which confuses me. Why?

But like I said I dont like the TSXs look. When I posted on NWP that I was selling the integra for an ILX I got flammed and bashed for giving up my integra for a TSX wannabe. Every with ADVICE said buy the tsx Ill be much happier.
Seems people like what they like. If you like the TSX then someone may want the base model over a nicer ILX... or they may opt for the best TSX because the base TL isn't their style.

Further more. I just cant own a base model anything. Integra RS, fuck that. Base ILX, hell no. I could have picked up the lower end TSX instead of the tech ILX. The better ilx just seemed like a better idea.

Now that Ive driven it for like 5 months, Im really happy I went with the smaller model. Plus I see TSXs everywhere. There are like two TSXs and two TLs in my parking lot at the gun range everyday. Ive seen an ILX there ONCE.
I think we are looking at two different time zones here. You're more referring to current and previous sales, and I am more thinking more about current future.

We all know the TSX is getting discontinued soon as it is near the end of its life cycle and Acura is in the process of rolling out its new line up... however there is still a lot of stock around to clear out so you can't just roll out whats new and better if the demand directly competes against a car you're trying to discontinue. It would leave Acura with an amazing amount of TSX's that they would have to reduce in price and take a loss on.

Again, give it a couple years, I'm sure once the ILX, TLX, RLX line up evolves, I can totally seem them making a faster 2.4L automatic ILX... but until then it doesn't make much sense to me. Anyways unless any of us are gonna be CEO of the company I guess we won't really know. just my $.02... kthxbye.
I agree about the TSX being stuck. I do not like the styling. The new TL refresh has me looking at the TL again. But that TSX front end just turns me off.
