Why no automatic option on the ILX 2.4 Premium?

I was very surprised to learn that the ILX 2.4 Premium only comes with a manual transmission. If Acura makes luxury vehicles it should offer an automatic transmission on all of its vehicles. Are you really going to turn people away from one of your cars because they don't know how to drive stick? And this comes at a time when other car makers are offering only automatic and getting rid of manual options.

No manual option may be a deal breaker for many buyers, and it seems an easy problem for Acura to fix. Just offer an automatic transmission!

Im pretty sure they wanted to offer the automatic line up and the argument was made to have a sporty option so this was made.
Though I agree Id rather have an auto 2.4, I believe that was their thinking.

welcome to the question the rest of the world is asking.

If they offered the 2.4L in automatic alot of people would opt for the ILX over the TSX

My brother just recently picked up a 2010 TSX certified preowned off lease.

To be honest I HATE how the TSX looks after 2008. The ILX is a much better looking car but he doesn't want to get the ILX because the 2.0L to him just feels inadequate and he doesnt want to drive manual.

He does like the ILX interior and exterior styling - even more so than the TSX.

My predictions is that the TL is going to get a bit smaller, Acura is going to cut the TSX and offer the 2.4L with an automatic in the ILX.

I think that is a pretty solid prediction cfrp.
TL and TSX are coming together to become the TLX and sit as the middle ground between the entry-level ILX and flagship RLX.
It'll probably drop to the size of the TSX but keep the luxuries and engine specs similar to the TL. It'll be a fucking magnificent car!!

I think Acura has done a great job with their line up decisions.
ILX<TLX<RLX RDX<MDX And the godly NSX
You've got your LUXURY line, your multi-DIMENSIONAL line, and a SPORTS car.

However I do agree the ILX really should have been available with all trim levels automatic including a 2.4
The manual should have remained 2.4 only.
All 2.4 models, AT and MT, should have coupe versions available for someone who wants the ultimate sporty ILX.
The coupe could have even been matched with a stiffer suspension and a lower gear ration then badged the ILX Type S. I think that would have made Acura's line up solid enough to part ways from Honda if they wanted.

But now Im just living in the clouds. ahaha

I have to agree with your brother completely except that the 2.0 wasn't slow enough to make me go for the tsx. In the end I wanted the TECH ILX over a BASE TSX so the ILX won.

To answer Maverick's question ......because the idiots in Torrance who make these calls are IDIOTS. My biggest question is why not the Earth Dreams engine ? They put that in the Accord. Why not a SH-AWD ? It's offered in all other Acura offerings (ok not the TSX ) and would allow the ILX to compete with the Audi A4

Im sure there are very good reasons for this, maybe going SH-AWD would require a lot of work to be done to the platform? The ILX is Civic based and they did do a lot to make it different, i'd imagine giving it tech that higher end Acura's have will push it's price more away from what it's current segment price range is at.

...the ilx would be closer to competing with the A3.....

Popeye - do you expect them to keep adding all these features and expect the price to stay the same?

The 2015 TLX will compete with the A4.
Although I'll admit the company doesn't do everything 100% correct, they aren't stupid.

The only difference is that the TLX will only be able to compete with the A4 up to some point, there's no way it will be able to keep up with the S4, or even the trim right under it. Audi is far superior to Acura.

maybe acura wanted to replicate the GSR, like how the GSR's were only made in 5spd and the parts were interchangeable with the 92-95 civic chassis. To me it looks like the same concept, another acura shell based off the civic.

honestly, acura should start naming their cars better... their whole line up sounds like dyslexic letters put together.

It seems to me that all cars should be offered automatic right out of the gate. The reason why is that there are planty a person who don't know how to drive manual. Those people are automatically disqualified from being able to purchase the vehicle. And what kind of luxury car doesn't offer an automatic transmission? That is the most basic luxury feature you could possibly have. That and A/C.

Very strange decision IMO, and apparently in many of your as well.
