    Smile Is the 150HP enough?

    Hi everyone,

I've liked the Acura ILX since it first came out and I almost purchased one in January but I held off hoping that the 201 HP engine would be offered in automatic or at least with the Tech Package for 2014. I took one for a test drive last weekend and I really like the car but the 150 HP engine just felt so sluggish between 40 - 60 MPH. I passed on the TSX because it's Tech Package is now outdated because of the ILX. For you owners out there with the 150HP engine, do you notice the lack of power or does it suit you just fine? I'm not trying to race or even put the pedal to the floor, but I am concerned about going uphill and freeway driving. Any insights would be helpful.

    Thanks,

    150hp is just fine.
Personally I think you answered your own question when you said youre not looking to race.
150hp is more than enough to get up hills and on freeways. Cars with less horsepower do it.

In all honesty; if you already think 150hp is slow then dont get the 2.0. You'll only be further disappointed because it wont get any faster if you dont work on it and youll only get more bored. A 2013 or even 2012 is in no way outdatedby the ILX. 2013 would be the same features pretty much but it would handle your concerns about the power.

Unless you can stand the boyracer look of the tsx (like me... and thats just my opinion guys!) then you should buy that. The 2013 wont be outdated compared to the current ILXs and it will put down the power you want.

Or go with the ilx 2.4 and lose the navigation.

For me the tech is easily quick enough. More power than my integra when I first got it and WAY more torque heavy. Its a fun car in comparison to the stock version of my old car so Im completely happy. I believe in built not bought so I have plans to sup it up so it wont always be 150hp.

250HP would be really nice in the ILX. Hopefully Acura will do something to increase power to make it a Verano Turbo rival!

I doubt they will. I bet Acura is already counting their loses and focusing again on the TL and RL.

I'm looking forward to the new TL.

Interested if they will do anything special with it.

Or maybe they will just keep it the same and add a new design and new interior...

The new TLX should be the car that saves Acura since it will be the best mix of affordability and luxury while not buying something completely entry-level like the ILX

    Saves Acura?
I dont believe Acura needs saving. They just became their own company in Japan, released a brand new car, re-released a retuned rlX and they're already a top name in the Luxury world... only Audi, Mercedes, and BMW are ahead of us and those are the real heavy hitters. Acura may never be the next Merc but it sure can rub the nose of a Lexus in the dirt. Sure itll take time before society sees Acura for what they've worked up to.
A girl friend of mine whos father is very very into cars, "Im starting to see Mercedes and expensive pieces of crap. But Acuras look great AND have good bones."
Very true. Mercedes may not be a piece of shit. But a lot of Merc, and well as BMW M owners, claim their companies have been short sticking them for the past decade. Ive read many articles claiming the Mercedes classes are too watered down now and the M series BMWs are more for everyday BMW owners instead of the enthusiasts now.

Just me blabbin. Maybe make some conversation.

I do agree that the BMW M is slowly heading more towards the every day driver and away from the hardcore enthusiast but the truth is that it works. People don't want to buy a gutted out M3 with super stiff suspension for 100k. People still want their cars to be smooth and comfortable.

Acura still has some way to go to beat Lexus.

One of the biggest complaints on Acura is their lack of performance inspiration. All of their cars have been pretty similar for many years. using the same engines over and over again.

I think acura already beats lexus.
The crowds im around see lexus as what it is... a toyota.
    If we say... honda:toyota::acura:lexus
Id go further and say... honda> toyota so acura> lexus
    Just my opinion.
